Paul named this baby quail Bandit. He found an unbroken egg in a raccoon nest and put it in an incubator. Quail chicks are precocial, meaning they  are mobile soon after hatching; altricial chicks are helpless (like robins). So, Bandit was doubly precocious. Jen and Paul have raised a lot of quails (and pheasants -- and chukars, unwittingly). Jen says Bandit was Paul's favorite.

A Portrait of Bandit (for Paul and Jen). Acrylic on masonite, 6"x8".
